Balustrade with a Demon (BA34)

BA34 is for bold owners. A forged demon walks up the stairs, and its outstretched wings become the handrail, so the whole railing is one three-dimensional sculpture.

It turns an ordinary flight of steps into the most talked-about part of the house.

A sculpture that works as a railing

BA34 departs from every standard scheme. Instead of a handrail on posts with infill between them, the railing is one spatial structure: the forged demon climbs the steps, its body and limbs carry the load, and its wings stretch out to form the handrail. The segments are joined directly to each other and stabilise one another.

Engineering behind the fantasy

However fantastical it looks, the demon has to meet the same requirements as any railing. The steel was shaped by hand while keeping the right sections at critical points, and the supports were placed so that the whole structure stays rigid under load. Getting that balance right required careful fitting of every element on the steps.

More fantasy and animal designs can be seen with our sculptural balustrades.
