Metal Statues and Monuments

We make metal statues and monuments by hand for town halls, parks, squares, companies and private gardens: figurative statues, modern abstract forms and animals on pedestals.

Unlike most statues, ours are not poured into moulds. They are forged and shaped by hand with blacksmith methods, which gives them a texture and presence that people notice immediately.

What are metal statues made of?

Most traditional statues are bronze, an alloy of copper and tin, made by pouring molten metal into moulds. Modern outdoor sculpture is often steel, either mild steel that is galvanized and painted or weathering steel that develops a stable rust-coloured patina, while stainless steel is used for bright, polished works. Copper, brass and aluminium are also common.

We work mainly in steel, shaping each part hot or cold and assembling the figure piece by piece, and we combine it with bronze, copper or brass where colour matters. Outdoor statues are galvanized or given a protective patina.

Weathering steel sculptures

Weathering steel, often known by the trade name Corten, is one of the newest materials we use. It has the loft-style look of rusted steel, but unlike ordinary steel the rust layer stabilises and does not keep eating into the metal, so it can stand outdoors without extra protection. We use it for modern sculptures as well as for traditional forms.

Monuments for towns and public spaces

For towns and municipalities we make monuments, roundabout sculptures, statues of patron saints and figures linked to local history. We start with a design and a visualisation in the setting, which help a town council or a competition jury make its decision. Public statues are made of steel, stainless steel, weathering steel or bronze, and the foundations and installation are agreed with the client. A well-designed statue becomes the symbol of a place.
