Exclusive Forged Openwork Stairs (BA56)

BA56 is a complete wrought iron staircase: an openwork spiral with a baroque balustrade, rising beside a classical facade.

The structure is heavy, solid and spectacular, and we build stairs like this to any height and shape.

An outdoor spiral stair

BA56 is built around a central column, around which an openwork spiral stair and its baroque balustrade rise beside a classical facade. The ornament is rich but orderly, set in a stable frame and spread rhythmically over the full height, so the stair works as a dominant architectural accent.

Proportion and use

In a spiral stair the key decision is the relation between the diameter and the usable width of the treads. Outdoors, treads are made from perforated or textured steel or natural stone so that they stay slip-resistant in rain and frost. We plan these details together with the structure, so the stair is as comfortable and safe as it is spectacular.

Forged in stages, fitted as one

Ironwork on this scale is made in stages: shaping the elements in the fire, modelling the detail by hand and finally fitting all the segments together precisely. Each motif is matched to the axis of the structure, so the whole stays legible despite its rich detail, and the balustrade becomes the main aesthetic element of an exterior metal structure with a representative, exclusive character.
