Forged Interior Railing (BA53)

BA53 intertwines blacksmith lattice with classic twisted bars and forged leaves, all held in a massive steel frame with solid posts.

In the photo it climbs a timber staircase; on every stair it takes on a slightly different character.

Made for a house of wood

BA53 was made for a house with timber interiors, and the photos show how dark steel with lighter rubbed highlights complements the warm colour of the wooden stair and walls. The starting posts have twisted shafts topped with balls, and on the upper flight a decorative panel with a symmetrical plant ornament forms a clear accent at floor level.

Lattice below, spirals above

The lower part of the railing is filled with a regular lattice, which strengthens the structure and gives it a calm base. Above it, classic spirals, twisted bars and forged leaves take over. The profiled handrail follows the turns of the stair and the newel post smoothly, and every element is fitted individually, so the composition keeps its proportions on each flight.

Timber stairs need a light, strong railing

On a wooden stair the railing must be fixed so that it does not loosen as the timber moves with the seasons. We use through-bolts and plates on the stringer or the treads instead of short screws, and we keep the weight of the steel reasonable without weakening the frame. The railings shown with our interior stair balustrades include several more made for timber staircases.
