Forged Balustrade with Herons (BA60)

BA60 brings a forest scene indoors: a gilded heron stands among forged vegetation along a curved gallery.

It takes talent and patience to make, so it is entrusted only to our best craftsmen.

A forest scene on a gallery

BA60 replaces the usual frame of a railing with freely drawn branches, reeds and leaves, among which stands a gilded forged heron. The scene runs along a curved gallery, and the upper line is drawn smoothly, without sharp divisions, so the railing closes the edge of the gallery without cutting the space in two.

Herons that carry load

The heron and the plants are not attached to a hidden frame; they are part of the structure and work together with the main bars that stiffen each span. That is what makes such a railing difficult to design and to forge, and why we give it only to our most experienced craftsmen. The bird is modelled individually, from the long neck to the feathers of the wings.

Animal and plant railings like this belong to our sculpted metal railings, where each piece is a one-off.

A mosaic gallery below

The infill is made of steel stems and leaves, and the gilded heron among them is a sculptural accent seen from the mezzanine as well as from below. The balustrade follows the wavy edge of a gallery finished in mosaic, and similar plant motifs repeat on the floor beneath, creating one coherent interior. The railing is forged by hand from solid material, and the chosen sections keep it rigid while it stays openwork.
