Made for a winding stair

BA30 was designed for a stair that turns sharply at the entrance and opens towards the hall. Its spirals converge and spread out along the flight, so the railing leads the eye around the turn. The design is delicate and moderately ornamented, and the dark finish contrasts with the wooden treads without overwhelming the room.

Denser at the bottom, open above

The lower part, where the stair starts and where people grip the rail hardest, is filled more densely to stiffen the first section. Higher up, the ornament opens out and lets the space breathe. The top edge follows the curve of the steps without sharp breaks, which is essential on a winding stair where every step has a different angle.

Fitting a curved flight

Curved and winding stairs cannot be measured with a tape alone. We take a template of the stair edge or use precise measurements of each step, and bend the handrail and the bottom rail to that shape before the ornament is fitted. The result is a railing that sits evenly above every tread, at the height the local building rules require.
