Capercaillie – A Steel Figure (Z1)

Z1 is a life-size capercaillie, the great grouse of European forests, displaying with its tail fanned out wide. Each feather was made separately by our metalworkers.

In the photo it stands in a snowy garden, exactly where you might meet one in the wild.

Scales of polished steel

The bird perches on a forged bough with its tail spread like a fan, just as a male does during the spring display. Its breast is covered with scale-like feathers of polished steel, while the head and neck have denser, darker plumage. A 1:1 figure like this is a treat for hunters and lovers of forest birds, and it looks splendid in a garden in winter too, under a layer of snow. Game birds like the capercaillie appeal to hunters, who often combine them with other forged animal figures.
