Classic Retro Fence (BP242)

BP242 is subdued: vertical bars with finials and a few scrolls, for people who love the real classics.

If you are not sure what your fence should look like, our designer will prepare a proposal for you.

Subdued, the way real classics are

BP242 is a fence for people who love the real classics. Tall vertical bars with forged finials set the rhythm, a few scrolls soften the top, and a band of rings and arches runs along the bottom of each span. Nothing is there just for effect, and the whole panel has the calm, upright elegance of the railings in front of old town houses.

A Japanese maple glows red behind the bars of this installation, in front of a brick house. The open pattern lets the garden play its part in the frontage, which is exactly what a retro design should do.

Retro details, modern durability

The retro character comes from proportions and small details that were common a century ago: slender bars, finials with a turned profile, rings forged from flat bar and joined with collars. We reproduce them by hand, but the steel underneath is protected with today’s corrosion treatments, so the fence keeps its look without the constant repainting old railings needed.

The fence pairs naturally with brick, stone and traditional pillars, and it also suits restrained modern houses whose owners want a touch of history at the front.

Not sure what your fence should look like?

Many clients come to us without a clear idea of what their fence should look like. In that case our designer prepares a proposal based on photos of the house: one or two variants of the panels, the gate and the wicket, drawn to scale on the actual frontage. BP242 is often the starting point for such proposals, because its simple structure is easy to adapt.

  • taller or lower bars for front and side boundaries,
  • finials in the form of spears, balls or acorns,
  • rings, arches or a plain rail along the base,
  • a matching swing or sliding driveway gate.

Because the pattern is regular, it is also easy to extend later: if you buy the neighbouring plot or build an extension, new spans can be made to match the existing ones exactly.

Retro railings are also a good choice for renovations of older houses, where a modern fence would look out of place. Drawn after old photographs or a surviving fragment, a new fence can bring back the original look of the street front.
