Wrought Iron Rococo-Baroque Fence (BP246)

BP246 runs along the boundary in a continuous wave of rococo and baroque ornament. Large forged leaves curl over the scrolls, and the panels follow each other like a garland along the path.

All the details were made by hand using traditional blacksmith methods.

For long, elegant boundaries

Because the pattern flows from panel to panel, the fence works especially well on long runs. We can make an identical fence for you; a slightly more intricate version is our rococo fence BP256.

Leaves that curl over the scrolls

The characteristic detail of BP246 is its leaves. They are large, forged from sheet steel and gilded, and they curl over the black scrolls as if blown by the wind. The panels have a wavy top line that rises and falls, so the fence seems to flow along the path like a garland. The photos show it next to a matching gate, whose leaf repeats the same leaves and scrolls.

Rococo and baroque together

Baroque ironwork is symmetrical, massive and solemn; rococo is lighter, asymmetrical and playful. BP246 borrows from both: the strong scrolls and the regular spans come from the baroque, while the curling leaves and the wavy outline come from rococo. That mixture makes the fence festive without being stiff, which is why it suits gardens as much as the fronts of grand houses.

Hand-forged leaves

Each leaf is cut from sheet steel, heated and shaped with hammers and punches, with veins chased into the surface and the edges curled. No two leaves are identical. They are then welded to the scrolls at several points, so they stay rigid in wind and do not rattle. Gilding is applied by hand over the painted steel.

Other fences with forged foliage, from restrained to exuberant, are shown in our ornamental fencing section.

Discipline behind the richness

A richer pattern needs compositional discipline. Symmetry, rhythm and consistently drawn details keep even an elaborate form orderly, so a fence in this style creates an elegant, coherent entrance zone instead of visual excess. BP246 works as the front fence of representative properties, where a strong setting from the street matters, and it goes well with stone, rich facades and classical architecture.
