An Elegant Forged Metal Fence (BP247)

BP247 sets a copper-toned diamond lattice inside a frame of scrolls, between stone pillars. The panel in the photo was installed near Berlin.

We build forged fences throughout Germany and the rest of the European Union.

Copper tones and a curved crest

The top rail of BP247 rises from both sides into a gentle curve and ends in a small forged finial at the centre. Beneath it, loose scrolls surround a field of diagonal lattice, and the whole panel is finished in a warm copper patina that shifts slightly with the light. Against pale stone pillars and a green hedge, the effect is soft and elegant rather than severe.

A patina like this is applied by hand over the base coat, so darker tones collect in the recesses of the scrolls while the raised edges stay lighter. It emphasises the forged shapes and gives a new fence the look of a piece that has been part of the garden for years.

Each span drawn around its pillars

Every panel is made to the exact distance between the pillars, so the curve of the crest is always centred and the scrolls end at the same height on both sides. On a long frontage the repeated curves create a calm wave along the street. Where the ground slopes, the panels can follow it in steps while the curve keeps its shape.

Rough-split stone, as in the photo, is a lovely partner for copper patina, but the design looks just as good with brick or smooth render. If you prefer a classic black finish, the scrolls can be highlighted with gold or bronze instead.

One style for the whole entrance

Fences of this kind are usually ordered together with a driveway gate and a pedestrian gate, where the curved crest can be raised higher to mark the entrance. We prepare drawings of the full frontage before anything is forged, so you can see how the gate, the wicket and the fence panels will look side by side.

Because every span is made to measure, there is no need to adapt the pillars to standard panel widths. That makes BP247 a good choice when an old wall or existing stone pillars are to stay, and only the ironwork is being renewed.
