Wrought Iron Railing in the Gothic Style (BA72)

BA72 is a heavy railing designed in the language of Gothic ornament, with tracery roundels along a long flight of outdoor stairs.

It is intended for churches, castles and other historic buildings, as well as private homes. We can make railings in the style of any period.

Discipline of line

In BA72 the key is the discipline of the line. Slender divisions lead the eye along the flight and give the railing lightness despite its solid build, and central fields with tracery roundels add a calm decorative accent within the vertical rhythm. The handrail runs in a smooth curve and has to match the slope and spacing of the steps exactly, so that the line reads clearly along the whole stair.

The railing is intended for churches, castles and historic buildings as well as private homes, and the tracery can be adapted to the windows or doors of the building it serves.

Symmetry forged with patience

The elements were forged by hand, with great care for precise joints and the right choice of sections. Ironwork of this type needs patient modelling of the steel and consistent symmetry, so that the structure is durable and subtle at the same time. The railing brings order to the entrance and gives it a noble character; it does not dominate the architecture but completes it naturally.
