Forged Bench of Independence (MK1C)

MK1C, the Independence Bench, was forged to mark the 100th anniversary of Poland regaining its independence in 1918. It is a modified version of our MK1 garden bench.

The basic form stayed the same: a backrest of large spiral volutes, rolled armrests and a seat of warm brown timber slats. In the middle of the backrest, however, we set an oval plaque engraved “Ławka Niepodległości” (Independence Bench) with the dates 1918–2018, and above it rises a forged eagle. Smaller oval plaques with inscriptions sit at the ends of the backrest, one of them naming the local community project under which the bench was funded.

Made by hand for one occasion

The bench was made entirely by hand using traditional blacksmithing techniques, with no series production. The spirals, the eagle and the plaques were shaped specifically for this piece, while the comfortable proportions of the seat and backrest were kept from the original design.
