Black and gold on a sweeping stair

The handrail of BA54 sweeps in an arc along the stair, and below it a rhythmic composition of spirals and rosettes fills the space. The black of the structure is a strong background for the gold accents, which bring out the depth of the detail and create a noble contrast. A massive lower frame stabilises the railing, while the openwork filling keeps it light.

Ornament that follows the curve

On a curved stair, the ornament must follow the geometry of the interior rather than fight with it. We shape each element by hand to the curvature of the flight, so the spirals keep their proportions from the bottom step to the top. Optional bronze elements can be added to the rosettes for an even richer effect.
