Forged Manor Gate with a Pine-Cone Crown (BP47)

BP47 was designed as the entrance to a manor house, and its crown is unforgettable: above the meeting point of the two leaves rises a huge forged pine cone, shaped and finished like a jewelled Fabergé egg.

As the gate opens, the cone leans majestically forward, as if bowing to arriving guests.

The gate is built from very thick bar, and many details are made in several layers, so even the frame carries ornament.

Equally beautiful from both sides

Every scroll and leaf is finished on the house side as carefully as on the street side. In the photos the gate hangs between brick piers with stone balls, with a matching pedestrian gate beside it, and gold highlights pick out the crest and the cone.

A crown that closes the axis

The tall central portal of BP47 is topped by a three-dimensional ornamental basket flanked by symmetrical compositions of forged leaves. It is not there only for decoration: it closes the axis of the driveway and creates a vertical focal point, just as in historic residential entrances where the gate was part of the front architecture. The openwork leaves, with gentle arches, vertical divisions and decorative balls in their central fields, keep the design light despite all its detail.

Proportioned to the house

We make gates like this to order. The proportions, the overall height and the form of the crown are adjusted to the architecture of the building, the width of the drive and the layout of the fence, so the entrance looks equally refined close up and from the far end of the drive. The pine-cone crown is a motif we often use on traditional manor gates, where one strong accent works better than ornament everywhere.
