Royal Palace Fence (BP209)

BP209 is one of the richest fence panels we produce. Bronze-toned scrolls, rosettes and acanthus crowd the arched panel, and every ornament is made of very massive material.

Few workshops can make patterns like this accurately and protect them properly against corrosion; it is intended for the most demanding clients.

Massive ornament, layer on layer

BP209 is one of the richest fence panels we make. Its curved top rises in the centre, and the space beneath it is filled with bronze-toned scrolls, rosettes and acanthus leaves arranged in overlapping layers. The photos show it on a white wall carved with relief ornament, next to pillars topped with stone vases, a setting that matches the sumptuous character of the ironwork.

Why few workshops can make it

Patterns this dense are difficult in two ways. First, every ornament is made from very massive material and has to be formed and fitted precisely, or the symmetry of the panel is lost. Second, the many overlapping elements create hidden corners where water could collect. We design the joints so that water drains away and protect the whole panel against corrosion before colouring, which is what keeps such fences sound for decades.

Colouring the relief

The bronze effect on BP209 is not a single coat. Over a dark base we apply bronze to the scrolls and leaves, then brush a lighter gold onto the highest points of the relief, so the ornament looks three-dimensional from a distance. On request the same panel can be finished in black and gold or in a deep copper tone.

If you like the scale of BP209 but want something less ornate, compare it with the calmer palace designs in our wrought iron fencing range.
