An Elegant Wrought Iron Fence (BP88)

BP88 is a delicate fence with plenty of refined detail, low arched panels of scrolls set between white pillars.

In front of the neoclassical villa in the photo, it lets the architecture speak while adding a fine line of ironwork.

Light ironwork for a grand facade

Next to a large white villa with columns, a heavy fence would fight with the architecture. BP88 does the opposite: its low panels of fine scrolls rise into a soft arch between the pillars, with a small decorative motif at the centre of each span. The ironwork draws a delicate dark line in front of the house and leaves the facade to speak for itself.

The panels sit on a low white wall, and the pillars are rendered to match the building. Together with the street lamps, they form a calm, symmetrical frontage that suits neoclassical, colonial and Mediterranean-style houses.

Delicate does not mean weak

Thin-looking ironwork still has to be sturdy. The outer frame of each panel is made from solid bar, and the scrolls are welded to it and to each other at every contact point, so the panel stays rigid even though it looks airy. That is the difference between a light design and a light construction.

Each scroll is bent by hand over a former, which keeps the curves consistent from panel to panel. Finished panels are zinc-coated and painted in deep black, a colour that stands out cleanly against white walls.

Ideas for a similar frontage

If your house has a similar classical character, BP88 can be made higher, with a matching double gate for the drive and a smaller gate for visitors. The central motif can become a monogram, a family crest or the house number. For a softer look, the panels can be finished in white or ivory to blend with the walls, and the open pattern keeps the garden and the facade visible from the road.
