Wrought Iron Fencing (BP220)

BP220 is a classic design: a beautiful openwork lattice in gently arched panels, with Greek elements in the details, between white pillars.

It suits almost any type of house.

Openwork lattice in gentle arches

BP220 is a classic, versatile design. Each span has a gently arched top, and the panel is filled with an openwork lattice whose crossings form a regular grid of diamonds. Small Greek elements in the details, such as the key pattern in the rails and the rosettes at selected crossings, add refinement without changing the calm character of the fence. White pillars, as on this property, bring out the fine drawing of the lattice.

Suits almost any house

A lattice fence is one of the few patterns that works with almost every type of building. On a classical villa it recalls traditional garden ironwork, on a country house it feels natural and modest, and in front of a modern house it reads as a clean geometric pattern. That is why BP220 is often chosen when a family is not sure which style to commit to: it will not date and will not clash with future changes to the house.

The lattice also has practical advantages. It is hard to climb, because there are no horizontal bars to step on, and it screens the garden a little more than straight bars, especially when seen at an angle.

How a forged lattice is made

There are two ways to make a lattice. In the simpler one, bars are laid over each other and welded at the crossings. In the traditional blacksmith method, one set of bars is punched with holes at each crossing and the other set is passed through them while hot, so the bars truly interlace. Through-punched lattice is stronger and looks more refined, and it is the method we use for fences like BP220.

Once assembled, the panels go for galvanizing and painting, so the many crossings, which are the most exposed spots of any lattice, stay sound.

Planning the run

  • front, side and rear boundaries in one consistent pattern,
  • higher arches next to the gate, lower ones along the sides,
  • diamond or square lattice, fine or coarse,
  • matching driveway gate and wicket with the same lattice.

Send us the length of your boundary, the position of the gate and a few photos of the house, and we will prepare a drawing showing how BP220 will look on your property. The lattice can also be repeated on a pergola or a garden gate further inside the plot.

Lattice designs of every scale, from fine garden screens to heavy estate fencing, can be compared in our forged fence gallery.

A neutral backdrop for the house

BP220 marks the boundary clearly while staying a neutral backdrop for the architecture of the house. It does not draw attention with loud detail; it builds its looks through proportion, and its repetition keeps longer runs light and consistent. The fence works as a front, side or rear boundary, or as one line around the whole property, and it does not need constant changes or modifications over the years.
