Forged Balustrade with Herons (BA83)

BA83 frames a balcony with forged branches and foliage, and at its centre a group of life-size herons gathers as if on a riverbank.

Every railing like this is made by hand and is unique; nothing in it is bought in. Herons are the scene we are asked for most often.

Made in 3D, entirely by hand

This railing was made in a three-dimensional technique, entirely by hand in our forge. It combines artistic metalwork with traditional blacksmithing: every element was forged and modelled from steel, and the structure contains no ready-made components, which gives it a sculptural, one-off character.

A scene taken from nature

The railing shows an extensive plant scene with a pair of herons at its centre. All elements have real depth and thickness. Trees, boughs, leaves and the birds themselves are modelled by hand in natural proportions, so the whole looks like a scene taken straight from a riverbank. Herons suit lakeside homes anywhere, from Minnesota to the Lake District, and the dark, slightly weathered finish lets the scene blend with stone and timber.

Never the same twice

Visitors to our premises can look at railings of this kind up close, and orders go directly to our workshop. Each one is built from scratch, without bought-in details, so no two are identical. The scene is always agreed with the owner: purely botanical, with animals and birds, or with figures, and its scale and complexity are matched to the building. For an even larger bird, see the railing with a two-metre heron. Herons are the most popular subject in our sculpted railings.
