Forged Fence with Willow and Water Lilies (BM43)

In BM43 a weeping willow grows from a marsh and spreads its branches over water lilies and other water plants.

The span is fully three-dimensional, about 40 cm (16 in) deep and roughly 200 cm (6 ft 6 in) high.

It suits private gardens as well as businesses linked to nature, such as farm stays and garden centres.

Long branches, a marshy base

The dominant form of BM43 is a weeping willow whose long, drooping branches create a dense, curtain-like texture across the whole width of the span. At its foot, water lilies and other water plants form a clear base, so the scene immediately suggests a pond or a marsh. The branches give the panel lightness and a vertical rhythm, while the lilies break that line and steady the composition.

Depth of 40 centimetres

The span is fully three-dimensional, about 40 cm (16 in) deep. The willow’s trunk stands proud of the background, some branches hang in front of others, and the lily pads lie at different levels, so the scene changes as you walk along it. Hand work shows in the transitions, the textures and the natural irregularity of the lines.

The span in the photos is about 200 cm high; the height can be changed freely, and the whole panel is hot-dip galvanized, so it can stand in any garden, on any type of fence.

Adapting the scene

We made this span for a client, and for other projects we can produce a similar one or change the design: the proportions of the willow, the length and layout of the branches, the amount of vegetation and how densely the background is filled. A pond-side scene can also include a heron, a kingfisher or ducks. Related designs belong to our nature-inspired gates and fences.
