Massive Forged Hunting-Style Fence (BM30)

BM30 is a fence without spans: one continuous scene of huge forged oaks, plants, birds and animals, made from thousands of hand-forged parts.

Its crowning detail is a peacock made in steel, copper and glass, whose tail glows in the sun. Herons and other birds perch in the branches along the run.

A fence without spans

BM30 has no repeated panels. The whole boundary is one continuous scene of mighty oaks, plants, birds and animals, assembled from thousands of elements, each forged by hand. Herons stand in the reeds, swans gather beneath the branches, and the scene is crowned by a peacock made of steel, copper and glass, whose tail glitters in the sun. A driveway gate and a wicket with a heron belong to the same composition, as the photos show.

Layered in depth

What sets this kind of fence apart is its depth. The branches and figures are arranged in several planes, one behind another, so the scene has a strong three-dimensional effect: light falls through the layers, shadows move with the sun, and every view along the fence looks different. From a distance the whole reads as a coherent landscape; up close you can see the hand-forged textures of bark, leaves and feathers.

Mass as a foundation

A scene this rich needs a heavy, well-planned structure behind it. The trunks of the oaks work as load-bearing posts, the main branches tie the scene together, and the smaller elements are welded to them so the whole fence acts as one rigid structure. That is why sections of BM30 are lifted into place with a crane, as one of the photos shows, and anchored to foundations designed for their weight.

Made for one property

A fence like BM30 is always composed for a particular site: its length, the position of the gate, the view from the house. The animals and plants can be chosen to match the region or the owners’ interests, and copper or glass details can be added where they will catch the light. Other scenes of this kind are collected among our sculpted gates and fences.

Before installation the sections are fully assembled in our yard, so we can check how the scene flows across the joints. Only then are they separated, numbered and transported, which is why the finished fence shows no break where one section meets the next.

Spans, wicket and gate in one style

We can make this design as a complete property system: fence, wicket and entrance gate in the same style, so the motifs of nature pass through every element in a considered way. A fence like this protects the property and at the same time becomes its calling card, and it can be seen in person in our company gallery, where the depth of the detail is far more striking than in any photograph.
