Designer Forged Bench – Steel Sculpture (MK22)

MK22 is a garden bench and a steel sculpture in one: a forged tree grows from one end, a flock of small birds perches on its branches, and a snail has crawled onto the armrest.

The tree rises at the right-hand end and leans its branches over the backrest, so the birds seem to have just landed above your head. It also does structural work as a strong support for that side of the bench. A small steel snail sits on the left armrest, the sort of detail children spot first.

A fan-shaped backrest

The backrest is made of wooden slats of different heights, tallest in the middle and lower towards the sides, each rounded at the top, so it opens like a fan or a row of organ pipes. The seat is made of wide slats. Beneath it the black forged frame sweeps into the tree and the legs in bold curves, with a twisted bar running along under the seat. Every element is shaped by hand.

A bench for a natural garden

MK22 seats several people comfortably, so it is a proper bench rather than a garden ornament. It suits a garden or terrace in a natural style, a park, or the courtyard of a restaurant or hotel where guests should find something unexpected. More pieces in this spirit are among our metal sculptures.
