Forged Fence with a Deer (BM19)

BM19 features an adult stag at 1:1 scale: the same height, length and depth as a real deer, forged in steel and finished in warm natural tones among forged vegetation.

We can make spans like this of any length, with any number and type of animals and plants.

The stag comes first

On BM19 the first thing you see is the stag, and only then the rest of the composition. The animal is the centre of gravity of the span and is designed to be legible from a distance, so the scene does not rely on random filling of the background. Its antlers rise above the top line of the fence, which makes the silhouette visible from the street.

Background that frames the animal

Branches, leaves and plants run across the span and form a natural frame around the main motif. They do not compete with the stag; they emphasise it. Because the elements sit at different depths, the span has a subtle three-dimensional effect, especially when you walk past it at an angle.

We made this span for a client, and for a new order we can change the proportions of the figure, the arrangement of the vegetation or the whole character of the scene. Related hunting designs are shown with our hunting-style gates and fences.

The stag in the photo is finished in natural brown, but a bronze, a dark patina or gilded antlers are also possible.

A sculptural element of the fence

The stag is not a copied template. Its lines and proportions were worked out so that the scene relies on a considered layout instead of filling the background at random, and the hand work shows in every detail. The whole span is steel, so it stays fully metal, stable and ready for many years of use, a strong decorative accent that still does its everyday job as a fence.
