Forged Fence with a Heron (BM18)

BM18 shows a life-size white heron standing among leafy forged plants beneath tall evergreen trees.

Every element is made by hand, hot-dip galvanized and painted in natural colours, and the scene can be modified freely.

A heron at the centre

On BM18 the heron is the point around which the whole scene is built. Shown in a light, slender pose, it gives the span a calm and elegant tone, while reeds and fine branches lead the pattern along the span and keep the background in order without taking the first plane away from the bird.

Rhythm of the plants

The plant lines are drawn smoothly, so the panel does not look heavy even with a rich pattern. Some elements stand out of the main plane, which gives a subtle three-dimensional effect, especially when the span is seen from the side. Up close the hand forming of the metal and the sculptural transitions are clearly visible.

We made this span for a client, but the heron’s proportions, its direction, the amount of vegetation and the character of the background can all be changed for a new order. Herons also look beautiful on wickets and on garden bridges in the same style.

The heron in the photo is painted white with a grey back and a yellow beak, after a real grey heron, while the reeds and leaves are green over the galvanized steel. A dark patina version is quieter and suits brick and stone walls.

Steel structure, natural scene

Every element of the span is three-dimensional, and the heron is life-size. Because the whole span is made of steel, it is fully metal and keeps its stability and durability in daily use, so the decorative nature motif comes together with a solid, practical structure. This freedom to modify the layout lets you keep an individual style instead of being locked into a fixed pattern, and the span can be matched to a particular property and to the effect you expect.
