Forged Fence with a Doe (BM22)

BM22 shows a doe standing calmly between forged trees, her coat finished in warm natural tones.

The animal and the trees are made by hand in three dimensions, and the span is hot-dip galvanized. We can use any other animal, or make a purely botanical scene.

A woodland clearing in metal

BM22 is a sculptural composition in which steel forms a full-size scene inspired by nature. At its centre stands a slender doe in a calm, natural pose, as if caught mid-step. She is a modelled figure rather than a flat cut-out, so the span has a clear three-dimensional depth. Around her, stylised tree trunks, branches and leaves run freely but deliberately, like a fragment of a forest clearing translated into metal.

Structure hidden in the trees

There is no dominant frame. The load-bearing structure is hidden in the trunks and the base, so the span keeps its natural character while still being stiff enough for a fence. Every element plays both a structural and an aesthetic role, which is the hardest part of designing a scene like this.

Changing with the light

The surface of the doe is worked with attention to texture, so the scene changes with the light: in the morning it looks soft and quiet, in the evening it gains contrast and stronger relief. Her coat is finished in warm natural tones over the galvanized steel.

Other animals, or only plants

We can use any other animal in this span, or make a purely botanical scene. Farm stays, guest houses and country homes often choose animals that belong to their surroundings, such as deer, foxes, hares or storks. A fence like this does more than mark the boundary; it gives the place an atmosphere that guests remember. Comparable designs are part of our sculptural fencing.

Size, weight and placement

The doe is made at natural size, so she stands roughly at chest height of an adult, and the span is sized around her. The whole span is heavier than an ordinary fence panel, but it is fixed in the same way between pillars, with brackets anchored into the masonry.

The best place for such a span is where people pass slowly: next to the entrance gate, along a path or facing the terrace. There the details of the animal can be seen up close, while the rest of the boundary can use calmer panels in the same style.

If you have a favourite photo of an animal, from your own garden or from a walk in the forest, we can use it as the model for the figure. A fawn beside the doe is a popular addition for families with children.

A gate and wicket in the same scene

BM22 works especially well at residences, country homes and houses surrounded by greenery. It can be the central accent of a front fence or part of a larger composition with a gate and a wicket in the same style, and the scene can be matched to the dimensions of the plot, the lie of the land and the style of the building. Corrosion protection and a proper finish keep the looks and the function together for many years.
