Designer Forged Bench (MK17)

MK17 is one of the most beautiful benches we make: a backrest of wooden panels that opens like a fan, framed by slender forged stems with small leaves.

Benches like this stand in the gardens of fine homes around the world, and like all our furniture MK17 can be adapted, or designed from scratch, to your brief.

Wood opening like a fan

The backrest is made of five wooden panels: the outer ones are triangular and the middle one tall and rounded, so together they open like a fan behind your shoulders. The seat follows a gentle curve and is built from wide timber segments, which gives the pleasant feeling of being held by the bench rather than perched on it.

A frame in gold bronze

The frame is forged from flat steel and patinated in a warm gold-bronze tone. Slender stems rise behind the backrest carrying small ginkgo-like leaves and buds, the armrests are soft, curving bands, and the legs are bound with wrapped collars and set on small balls. Every leaf is shaped individually and every panel is cut and fitted by hand in our workshop, with no mass-produced parts.

Proven on a city street

One MK17 stands in the centre of Bydgoszcz, at 9 Jagiellońska Street, next to the regional teacher training centre, where passers-by use it every day. A bench that copes with public use and city weather has nothing to fear in a private garden. Benches for public spaces are bolted to the ground, like the other park models in our wrought iron benches, and more pieces for the garden and terrace are shown with the rest of our forged furniture.
