Massive Designer Forged Bench – 500 kg, 330 cm Long (MK82)

MK82 is a garden bench on a monumental scale: 330 cm long, 250 cm high and weighing around 500 kg, with forged herons, a lion and two eagles keeping watch over an oak seat.

The bench measures 330 cm (10 ft 10 in) in length and 250 cm (8 ft 2 in) in height, and it weighs about 500 kg (1,100 lb). The frame is hot-dip galvanized steel throughout; the seat and backrest are solid oak. A piece of this size needs space around it, so it is designed for very large gardens and parks, palace grounds, spa parks or the entrance to a hotel, where it quickly becomes a meeting point and a favourite spot for photos.

A fairy tale forged in steel

The theme is a fairy tale set in the forest. A heron stands guard at each end with its wings half open, and a large bird crowns the backrest. Below it sits a shield with a lion’s head, flanked by two stylised eagle heads. The whole bench rests on forged tree limbs with a rough, bark-like surface, so the structure looks as if it had grown out of the ground rather than been bolted together.

Every feather on the herons and on the bird is forged separately and laid over the next one. A black patina brings out the texture of the plumage and the bark, while the oak gives the seat a warm contrast that suits an autumn park as well as a formal lawn.

Your own version

MK82 can be made with other animals, with your family crest in place of the lion, or to a different length.
