Metal Bench in the Shape of a Tree (MK84)

MK84 is a bench and a sculpture in one.

Gnarled steel roots form the seat and back, a tree trunk rises at one end and its branches arch over the bench, holding a built-in lamp.

It is forged entirely by hand, hot-dip galvanized and weighs about 300 kg (660 lb).

Roots and branches in a gravel garden

In the photos the bench stands on a bed of gravel and stones in front of a conifer hedge, where the twisted roots and branches look like an old tree that has grown into a seat. Because it is as much a sculpture as a piece of furniture, it works best as the centrepiece of a garden corner, and hot-dip galvanizing lets it stay outdoors all year.
